The service project is based on local communities of Nepal. Support is only offered where a viable request has been made by a community or if they really need a support. AHT does not impose projects on communities and are invited to support an ongoing or new initiatives through the provision of volunteers, thereby helping the community lower the cost of project operation. By using skilled and unskilled manpower, this project is designed to help the community achieve their goals. The goals can range from painting the local community buildings, toilet constructions to repair of community water tap. In other instances, community maintenance volunteers can provide services to local schools, such as redecoration, repairing window, painting the perimeter fence and repairing broken benches. As a community maintenance volunteer, you will work along side community members and hired/skilled laborers if required. Unless you come with a specific skill set or expertise, you will be performing manual labor, i.e. a whole lot of humping, dumping, digging and painting! By comparison to western standards, the projects you work on will be extremely low tech and every task is performed with local mechanical tools.AHT does not guarantee funding for external community maintenance projects, but if funding is available, will try to make some contribution.
